The County team's final friendly match of the season took place at Pavenham Park Golf Club, on Sunday 11th April 2010, against our traditional rivals Northamptonshire. The course was in excellent condition, with the fast sloping greens in good, early season condition. The match clashed with the Palmerston Trophy at Brocket Hall and those players who were eligible for that were encouraged to take part, in order for them to play against high quality opposition which will benefit the County in the future. This gave us the chance to go deep into our squad and provide an opportunity for some of the players to show what they could do. The team exceeded all our expectations, only just losing to a very experienced side eight points to seven. The morning foursomes were halved and as in the Cambridge match it took a birdie on the last to beat us in one of the matches. The singles could have gone either way for most of the afternoon session, with both teams playing excellent golf on the testing Pavenham Park greens. In many ways this was a more pleasing result that our halved match against Cambridge, eight players were 21 or under and three under 17 all of whom played extremely well, if they continue to progress Bedfordshire has a bright future. Can I thank all those at Pavenham Park Golf Club for making us so welcome on the day.
